Kona Coast Church of the Nazarene is affiliated with The Global Church of the Nazarene.

Why a denomination?

The Church of the Nazarene is an evangelical denomination with a biblical mission.  It is a global "family" with more than 12,000 local churches in 160 countries. Within the denomination, leaders act to support pastors in fulfilling their call to ministry and correct pastors who fail to remain faithful to their ordination vows. KCN views a balance of support and accountability as healthy. We seek to exist in full harmony with the Church of the Nazarene as one piece of the broader Christian Church.

What does Nazarene mean?

There are two ways to answer this:

  1. Nazarene simply refers to Jesus who grew up in the humble city of Nazareth. Remembering that Jesus was a Nazarene reminds us that God indeed became human--Immanuel--and identifies with and cares deeply about the everyday needs of common people.
  2. Nazarene identifies the religious currents from which The Church of the Nazarene was birthed.  "Nazarene" connects us to our Wesleyan roots and the Holiness Revivals of the 19th Century. The former reminds us that our heritage emphasizes the sufficiency of grace for salvation, spiritual growth, and moral responsibility.   The latter reminds us that we are a "revival" people, always expectant of God's Spirit to be poured out on God's people.

The Nazarene Statement of Belief

We believe in one God--the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.

We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.

We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.

We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
